Overview
The head assembly is the key component of the wireline core barrel inner tube group — it latches the inner tube inside the outer tube during drilling and allows the core to be retrieved by wireline without pulling the drill string.
The overshot (surface type) is lowered on the wireline to catch the head assembly spearhead and pull the inner tube with its core sample to the surface — no need to trip the drill rods out of the hole.
